Hi!

Today was great. Woke up at 5:30am since it was a short day. Only walking 18km today.

Briefly met Erica from Canada in the lobby, then I got on the road solo.

There were two different paths to take on our way to Carrión de los Condes and I took the scenic route, which apparently was the road less traveled. Nobody was on it. I didn’t see a single other pilgrim.

But it was so nice. My mind was clear yet going crazy, in a good way. I came up with some song melodies, started writing some songs during the walk and working on some more future planning.

No music/outside noises makes it much easier to do all of that.

But today was very cloudy and cool. Almost looked like it was going to rain all day but it never did.

I walked so fast trying to catch up to my friends when they weren’t even on the same trail.

But anyways I arrived in Carrión de los Condes at 10am.

I bumped into Emily, who is biking the meseta. She was taking her break in town and got food with Brydie, who was continuing onto the next town today. I sat down with them until they left

I went and sat in a park and ate my salad that I bought at the store yesterday.

Then everyone else caught up and we walked over to another park where we all stretched.

We then played on the grass, talking about clouds, favorite colors, and being color blind. We had a big debate about that topic.

Some kids were visiting town on a field trip scavenger hunt and they also kept asking us questions.

Then Allegra pulled a compheed off her leg and it was hilarious to watch her facial expressions.

I then went to the supermarket to get fresh fruit before it was all taken, came back and the albergue doors were open.

We went in and sat while they gave us the welcoming speech. Supposedly this is the place where the nuns sing to us.

We got situated, showered, etc., and then went back to the store, since apparently our dinner is communally funded by what we buy and put in the dinner basket.

There were about 35 of us staying here and I knew for a fact almost none of them were going to buy anything.

But we got food anyways and went back to play cards for a couple hours.

I taught 4 new people how to play kombio and they all love it now.

We then went to the singing ceremony. There were no nuns, but the priest and the brothers were singing for us instead with their guitars.

After an hour, we went to mass.

Mass was great. We went back and started preparing dinner and then we ate.

The hosts made vegetable soup for us. Then everything else was communal. There was almost no food except for the food we bought.

So it all was gone very fast.

I got no pasta, no protein, only salad and some guacamole which was fine.

But we had a lot of wine.

The vibes were extremely high.

I met Frederico from France. He is 40 years old and super cool, we talked all during dinner.

Then we cleaned up and I found out they had a keyboard at the house.

One of the volunteers and I played it. It was awesome. I haven’t played a piano in a month and it was so calming.

Then 10pm hit and we had to stop and get ready for bed.

We last minute found out there were bathrooms downstairs and there was a guy in a stall making barking dog noises. Crazy.

Today was an amazing day. Vibes were extremely high and it was fun to hang out with the group in this town.

Tomorrow we walk 27km to Terradillos de los Templarios. Gonna get up at 5am. Should hopefully still be relatively cool tomorrow.

See y’all then,

David
