Today was hectic.
We got up and prepared. Last night I messaged an Albergue in Mansilla de las Mulas to see if they had availability or reservations and they said they were closed. So we chose to walk only to Reliegos today.
Went downstairs, they had toast and Nutella for us. I had some bites and left with Allegra and Elicia.
We talked about life and the idea of living for yourself instead of others.
We caught up with the squad and kept walking. Duncan and I did a lot of chatting since it’s easier talking to another native english speaker
We stopped at a picnic table and ate some food. I only have muffins left so I ate those.
Continued on, got to Reliegos. We had an hour to kill so we lined up our shoes at the door of the albergue and went to get a snack.
After food, we checked in.
This place was a literal children’s play pen.
The check-in room had ping pong, all sorts of weird toys, and a piano and other instruments.
And they even had us sleep in this room.
Which was hilarious when we’re all sleeping and pilgrims continue to come in all day to get checked in, in our own bedroom.
But I loved it because the piano was awesome. I played it for hours.
Then Ellie texted in our chat and said that she had caught up to us and was in town. We went outside and met her at the bar.
After, we went back and played kombio upstairs. A guy in the kitchen offered us his paella to taste test. It was a 2/5. Not a paella.
Then we went downstairs, chilled for a bit, and went to get drinks with these other Italians. They were the majority of population in this Albergue.
We then ordered food. A burger.
So good, ate it and we then went to Bar Elvis. Which is apparently the best bar on the Camino.
It was ran by a crazy guy who’s smoking, pouring drinks, and playing a game of chess all at the same time.
And every single wall on the inside and out of this place has graffiti on it.
We got a beer, went back home and I played a little more piano.
Apparently there are some big fires disturbing the Camino coming up after Leon, and it’s rumored that we won’t be able to continue.
We have been brainstorming different ideas of how to work around this.
But we don’t have any official updates on whether or not the trail is closed yet.
Will keep you posted.
Tomorrow we head for Leon.
See y’all then,
David
