Hey.
Woke up on this fine morning to a beautiful view out the tent.
I slept so good last night. I put the tent right on some shrubbery so it felt like I was floating on a cloud.
It’s been so wet in Galicia that none of my clothes dry after I hand wash them. The clothes from two days ago I washed are still wet. So I had to just put on my clothes from yesterdays walk and continue on.
Got on the road. Ate a kiwi.
My phone was low, so once I made it into a town I stopped to charge it. I always get a coffee because it’d be rude if I used them for their electricity and didn’t compensate.
And she gave me complementary cake with it. I ate it before I could get a pic so here’s the aftermath.
Got back on the road. Today was steep. There was a split between two routes to get me to my next destination and I chose the more vertical, and shorter route. It was an intense steep climb but when I made it to the top it was gorgeous.
Windmills everywhere.
Continued on nevertheless. I was hoping to make it to Vilalba today, which is 50km roughly.
It was a chill walk. The weather was very nice, cloudy with a breeze. I was getting extreme fall vibes today. Got me excited for October and Halloween. I love that time of the year. Always been my favorite.
This dog was following me for sometime as well. It’s a general rule to not let dogs follow you because they’ll get lost but this one would not leave my side. We were in a pretty open and isolated area so I think it was clear he knew what he was doing.
There were beautiful views though nonstop. I wish I had a nice camera to take pictures of all of it. Might need to invest when I get home.
Hours on hours later, I arrived to my Albergue. At 8:30pm. The latest I’ve ever arrived. I even messaged the hospitalero while walking to make sure he would be open and have space for me.
When I arrived, he was so generous and nice to me. He really made me realize how intense it is to walk 50km, 10ish hours in one day. It’s become such second nature to me.
I checked in, and went into my room and it was empty. I had it all to myself until a group of kids showed up.
Background: Vilalba is about 110km from Santiago. The minimum amount of kilometers one needs to walk to achieve Camino status is 100km, so a lot of people will start the Norte in or near Vilalba.
And there were a lot of them here.
Anyways, I did laundry, hung up my still wet clothes from days ago, and did some work on my phone.
Feels so nice to be in a bed. Although I was doing so much work it’s now 1am. I need to sleep. Gonna get up at 7:30am, probably leave at 8. Will walk another 50km tomorrow
See yall then,
David
