Ello!
Today I woke up at 6am to walk to Los Arcos. I wasn’t going to wait in Estella until 8am to watch the running of the bulls because I assumed it would be pointless.
I got dressed so fast, and got out of the albergue quick and got on the road with Ludovic, Céline, and Josephine at 6:45am.
We got walking and made a stop at a super cool blacksmith shop where he was also giving out stamps. (We have Pilgrim Passports that we can fill up with stamps while we travel along the Camino de Santiago).
We got a stamp and continued on, where we found the infamous wine fountain!
Sadly we were too early. The fountain doesn’t start operating until 8am, and it was 7:30am. We left, and even later heard that there was never any wine.
After the wine fountain, I got separated from my friends because I stayed back for a second too long at the wine fountain. When I went to catch up, I was met with a split in the trail.
Left or right.
I chose left, as it was shorter, but it led me up into the forest to a shaded trail for the day. My friends had ended up going right, so I never end up seeing them until hours later in Los Arcos.
Regardless, I had a blast on my own.
I ate leftover slices of pizza from last night and sang myself some songs. Time flew by so fast today.
I arrived in Los Arcos at 11:30am. 5 hours, not considering the amount of time we waited at the wine fountain to see if it would dispense wine at 8am.
I got some sour belts at the vending machine and met up with Ellie and Abby, who had left at 5am and just arrived into town. I eventually began to realize I had taken an alternate route to Los Arcos and definitely passed my friends. I texted them and they were still 2 hours out from town.
So I sat down at a table with Ellie and Abby and hung out, then went over to the Albergue to get a room.
I got situated and did our regular shower and clean up.
By the time I had finished cleaning up, my other friends had arrived and were showering as well.
We all did a communal load of laundry and then went out on the town to get some food at the Carrefour.
We went back, made a smorgasbord, and played Kombio for hours. Apparently it’s a worldwide known game, for even Josephine already knew how to play it. And she’s from Denmark.
Also, we cut up melon with my new knife, and also ate it with ham wrapped around. They said it’s a local tradition I don’t know if I believe them.
When it hit 5pm, we went to the pharmacia to get some goodies. I needed lotion because my skin has been dry as frick. And everyone else needed compeeds and other stuff for their feet.
We then went back to the Albergue; I got an ice cream cone at an alimentaction on the way .
We hung out for about another 2 hours, playing more kombio, until a magician on the Camino walked up to us and wanted to show us some tricks.
He showed us some tricks for about 10 minutes and it was awesome.
By this time, max had also arrived. He stayed in Estella to watch the running of the bulls and said it was extremely overrated and not worth the wait.
By then it was pretty late so we went out on the hunt for food. We stopped real quick at the local Cathedral to check it out first.
We found the one restaurant that looked moderately ok and the food reviews were horrible.
We ended up going back to Carrefour to get more snacks and make another big smorgasbord.
This one turned out amazing and we got a lot of people to join in.
Food was great, vibes were amazing, and we found our topic of the day:
What was your childhood cartoon crush.
Think about your own, and go ask your friends as well.
We heard a lot of crazy answers. Someone even said Mrs. Potts from Beauty and The Beast.
…
Anyways, the sun set and we got ready for bed.
Tomorrow we are not walking all the way to Logroño because it would be 28km. We are splitting it up by staying in Viana tomorrow(18km). We will then do 10km the next day to Logroño. We are in no rush.
Vibes will be high but we are getting up at 5:30. I’m writing this at 11:30pm. Gonna be rough but we rally.
See y’all then,
David
